Advanced Psychology Services was established by psychologists Dr Anna Steele and Dr Simon Wilksch. It is a psychology clinic that provides treatment in the area of eating disorders and related problems.
Anna and Simon both have PhDs in the area of eating disorders and have worked together in the field since 2003. They have assisted people experiencing an eating disorder in a variety of contexts, including hospital, community-based settings and international treatment trials. They are also skilled at providing treatment for people experiencing problems that often co-occur with eating disorders - for example, anxiety, depression, perfectionism and difficulty managing strong emotions.
Anna and Simon have also conducted research in the areas of eating disorder risk factors, prevention and treatment. Their work has been published in various international journals and books, and they have presented research findings at international and national conferences. I am Media Smart is a free, online resource open to 13-25 year-olds of any gender wishing to improve their body image (suitable for those with body image concerns through to those experiencing an eating disorder). They have given presentations to a wide range of audiences (e.g., psychologists, other mental health workers, GPs, teachers, parents, carers) to increase understanding and awareness of eating disorders. They have regularly been members of committees aimed at improving services for people experiencing eating disorders and they are both members of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Eating Disorders.
Anna and Simon are passionate about providing a high quality service. They have a unique mix of therapy and research skills which enables them to have a very thorough understanding of how eating disorders develop, what keeps them going and helpful ways to treat them and facilitate recovery.
Jacqueline holds a PhD in the area of eating disorders and as a clinician and researcher she has worked in a variety of contexts across a broad range of diagnoses and treatment modalities. She has been involved in research into the aetiology, prevention and treatment of eating disorders and has published in various international journals. She is a member of both the Australian Psychological Society and the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Eating Disorders.
Ivana is a clinical psychologist with a passion in assisting people with eating disorders and co-occurring difficulties. Since the completion of her PhD, she has worked across public, private, and NGO sectors, and has specialised training in the provision of evidence-based eating disorder treatment in both individual and group-based inpatient and outpatient treatment settings. Ivana has also dedicated her interests in the research field of eating disorders and perfectionism and is an authored contributor of a handbook for eating difficulties, alongside several peer-reviewed papers in international journals. Ivana is a Credentialed Eating Disorder Clinician with the National Eating Disorders Collaboration and is a member of both the Australian Psychological Society and the Australian & New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders.
Meghan is a psychologist with experience in providing evidence-based therapies to people with eating disorders and co-occurring difficulties (e.g.depression, anxiety and trauma). Meghan is passionate about supporting clients to flourish and working with them to achieve their therapy goals and make meaningful progress towards living a more fulfilling life. Meghan provides a warm and non-judgemental therapeutic space to ensure clients feel supported. Meghan is a registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner’s Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).
Shelby is a passionate psychologist committed to helping people with eating disorders. With experience in evidence-based treatment, she addresses not only eating disorders but also related issues such as anxiety, depression, adjustment difficulties, relational challenges, and stress management. Shelby employs a range of therapeutic methods, including CBT-E for eating disorders, CBT, and ACT, tailoring her approach to meet each person's needs. Known for her empathetic and energetic communication style, Shelby helps her clients build resilience and pursue self-improvement. She prioritizes a collaborative and client-centred approach, creating a safe space where clients feel empowered to take charge of their own experiences and work towards their goals. Shelby is a Credentialed Eating Disorder Clinician with the National Eating Disorders Collaboration and the Australian & New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders.
Sasha is a Clinical Psychologist with over ten years experience working in the public health, education and charity sector. Sasha has expertise in the assessment and treatment of eating disorders, anxiety-based disorders and OCD.
Clients may enjoy Sasha’s warm and playful approach to sessions within the bounds of clear assessment treatment planning. Sasha believes clients should leave every session with clarity about their treatment journey and skills to target their concerns. Sasha also believes goal setting to be essential to treatment planning and regularly reviews these with clients throughout the therapy journey.
Tania is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Credentialed Eating Disorder Clinician with a special interest in eating disorders and eating behaviour.
Tania provides medical nutrition therapy for children and adults experiencing eating disorders. She collaborates closely with her clients to meet their individual nutritional needs, offering support and guidance to navigate any challenges that arise throughout the recovery process.
Tania has a Bachelor of Science from The University of Adelaide and a Master of Nutrition and Dietetics from Flinders University.
She is the founder of Happy Healthy Me, an organisation dedicated to helping people develop a healthy relationship with food and healthy body image.
Tania has worked in private practice, community health, clinical dietetics, with the food industry and in public relations. She was a Dietitians Australia media spokesperson for 20 years and continues to provide valuable insight for food and nutrition stories. Tania has worked with media outlets across Australia including ABC Education TV, Today Tonight, A Current Affair, The Australian, The Australian Women’s Weekly, The Sydney Morning Herald, ABC Radio and radio 5AA. Tania has also contributed regular nutrition features to The Advertiser newspaper in Adelaide.
Sophie is a passionate, empathetic, and client-centred dietitian with a special interest in eating disorders, disordered eating, and the complex relationship between food and mental health. Her approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based care. Sophie’s goal is to create a safe and trusting, non-judgemental environment where clients feel heard and understood. She works closely with clients and, where needed, other practitioners, to reduce stress around eating, promote wellbeing, and help individuals feel informed and empowered in their nutrition and health journey. Sophie is an Accredited Practising Dietitian with Dietitians Australia, a Provisional Sports Dietitian, and a Credentialed Eating Disorder Dietitian with the National Eating Disorders Collaboration and the Australia & New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders.
Sindhu is an Accredited Practising Dietitian holding a Bachelor’s in Nutrition and Dietetics and Bachelor in Psychological Studies from Flinders University, Adelaide. Sindhu has been interested in learning the bi-directional relationship between nutrition and human physiology and this has led her to focus on eating disorders. Sindhu has experience in general adult nutrition as well as paediatric nutrition including but not limited to Enteral Feeding (EN), solid introduction and feeding challenges, failure to thrive / faltering growth, nutrition support for medical conditions, weight management, disabilities (for example ASD, GDD), ARFIDs, food allergies, intolerances, fussy eating and disordered eating.
Alice is a dietitian who has had experience working with children and adults across a variety of settings in Australia and England. She has worked within a community eating disorder service in London and values the input from multiple health professionals when helping clients achieve their goals. Currently Alice also works with children with various feeding disorders including ARFID. Alice completed her Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics (Honours) at Flinders University and since then has also completed a Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Practice (Griffith University) and is a Provisional Sports Dietitian. She is passionate about working with clients to overcome their food challenges and become empowered with their food choices.
At APS we are proud to offer clients the option of working with provisional psychologists – highly trained, compassionate professionals who are completing the final stages of their psychology qualifications under expert supervision. Provisional psychologists are registered health professionals and are legally able to deliver health services but are not eligible for a Medicare provider number.

No Mental Health Care Plan or Eating Disorders Plan required
We do require our referral form to be completed prior to making an appointment with our provisional psychologists but you do not need a mental health care plan or EDP as they are not eligible for Medicare rebates in their provisional status.

Affordable rates
Services with provisional psychologists are offered at a reduced fee making support more accessible while still delivering excellent quality care.
An assessment session is $265 (90 minutes) and follow up appointments are $185 (50 minutes). Medicare rebates do not apply to services offered by provisional psychologists.
Katelyn is a provisional psychologist committed to working with eating disorders, body image concerns, and related challenges such as anxiety, depression and perfectionism. She is trained in Enhanced Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT-E) for eating disorders and draws on techniques from mindfulness and self-compassion approaches to support clients in their wellbeing and growth. Katelyn brings a patient and empathic approach to her work, with a focus on ensuring her clients feel genuinely heard, respected, and supported.
Genevieve is an empathetic and client-centred provisional psychologist dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing eating disorders and is passionate about helping people make meaningful progress towards their therapeutic goals. Drawing on evidence-based approaches, such as Enhanced Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT-E), Genevieve provides a warm, collaborative, and creative therapeutic space where clients feel genuinely supported. She believes the therapeutic relationship is key to enabling individuals to get the most out of therapy.
Kate is an ardent advocate for people experiencing an eating disorder and supporting their loved ones. She is passionate about endorsing full recovery from an eating disorder as a real and possible outcome. Awarded the 2015 Distinguished Achievement Award Australian and New Zealand Academy of Eating Disorders (ANZAED). Kate supports the admin team and APS clincians and is available to assist clients in navigating referral pathways, plans and Medicare.
Amy recently graduated from Flinders University with a double degree in Business and Psychology with a plan to pursue a career in clinical psychology working with people with eating disorders.
Sophie is a Psychology student at Adelaide University who is taking the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with an administrative role within a clinical setting. She has a plan to pursue a career in empowering and supporting individuals facing mental health challenges, with a particular interest in eating disorder prevention and treatment approaches.
Kara is a psychology student at Flinders who has a special interest in eating disorders. She is passionate about supporting people to pursue recovery.

We offer 50-minute appointments to people with eating disorders, body image concerns and related problems. Our clients can be adults, adolescents or children and our work with younger clients often involves members of their family.
We place great importance on tailoring evidence-based treatment programs to focus on the individual needs of our clients. We believe treatment should be a collaborative process where the client and the psychologist agree upon treatment goals and work together to achieve them.
Please find a referral form in the link below to be completed by your GP or other treating health professional. Once we have received the completed form we will be in touch to confirm our waiting list time and to chat about appointment options. An assessment session is $455 ($425 concession) and subsequent appointments are $320 ($290concession). There is a gap payment of $174.75 or $144.75 if you have a health concession card. We are not a bulk billing practice.
When your GP completes the referral form you may also wish to ask that they complete an Eating Disorders Plan (EDP) or a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) in order to receive the Medicare rebate towards the cost of the sessions. Most GPs require a longer appointment for this.
Treatment under an EDP allows up to 40 rebated sessions per 12 month period. After each 10 sessions you will need to return to your GP for review. To access more than 20 sessions under an EDP a specialist review with either a paediatrician or psychiatrist is required (be mindful of the long wait time for specialists and discuss this option early with your GP). Medicare Safety Nets can help lower your out-of-pocket costs if you are using a Mental Health Care Plan or an Eating Disorders Treatment Plan. We suggest that your check your Medicare account to see if you are close to reaching or have reached the Medicare Safety Net for the calendar year. Feel free to speak to our admin team if you require more information about Medicare thresholds.
Clinic reception is attended Monday to Friday, 8:30 am until 3:00pm. We are a small team and there is only one receptionist, so we are not always able to answer the phone immediately. Please treat our reception team with kindness and respect when you do speak with them.
